Grants and Support Programs

Travel grants, talent development and support programs.

Student Travel Grants

SIGARCH provides grants to support student travel for a number of SIGARCH-sponsored conferences, including ISCA and ASPLOS. These grants are administered directly by the conference organizers.

Talent Development, Well-Being and Diversity Support Programs

SIGARCH provides financial support for a number of initiatives aimed at developing talent, improving well-being, and advancing diversity and inclusion at SIGARCH-sponsored events. Recently-supported initiatives include the Undergrad Architecture Mentoring Workshop (Uarch), Young Architect Workshop (Yarch) and the grad cohort of CRA Committee on Widening Participation in Computing Research (CRA-WP).

If you are planning an event whose significant outcome is developing talent, improving well-being and advancing diversity/inclusion, and if the event is associated with a SIGARCH-sponsored conference, SIGARCH may be able to offer limited financial support. If you would like to apply, please send an e-mail to with a brief description of the event and how it will contribute to one or more of the outcomes above.

Companion Assistance Program

Would you like to attend a SIGARCH-sponsored event, but require assistance to travel or have a small child in your care? SIGARCH can provide funds for a limited number of travel grants to attend a SIGARCH-sponsored (or co-sponsored at a level of 33.3% or greater) conference for a companion care-provider for a SIGARCH member who is:

  • a person with a physical disability necessitating a companion, or
  • a parent of an infant less than two years old who cannot travel without the infant and a care-provider for the infant.

The only costs covered are those incurred solely for the transportation of the companion. Shared transportation expenses, such as taxis, and non-transportation costs, such as room and board, are not covered. For more information about this program, please send e-mail to (or conference chair) at least a week before the early registration deadline of the event.

Child-care Travel Support Program

Would you like to attend a SIGARCH-sponsored event, but cannot because the cost of child-care is prohibitive? SIGARCH provides funds for a limited number of grants that support child care for members that would like to participate in a SIGARCH-sponsored event but are unable to do so without this support. SIGARCH provides financial assistance to subsidize a variety of child-care options, including:

  • On-site child care at conferences arranged by the parent, including placing kids in a shared care facility or paying for babysitting expenses
  • Travel costs for a companion who provides child care, specifically for non-shared transportation costs such as airfare.
  • Travel costs for children between the ages of two and sixteen.

Because grant funds are limited, the support provided might be lower than the amount requested. The actual amount will be decided by the grant administrator based on a variety of factors including (but not limited to) the available budget and the number of applications. For more information about this program or to apply for support, please send e-mail to (or conference chair) at least a week before the early registration deadline of the event. Your email should include:

  • A statement that you are a member of SIGARCH (include your ACM membership number), attesting that the costs you are requesting reimbursement for arise from the need to travel to
    participate in the conference.
  • A resume.
  • A budget that includes details on the specifics of the kind of support requested.
  • A brief description of how you are participating in the conference or workshop. Examples might include presenting a paper, participating in the program or organizing committee, etc. We do not foresee supporting travel for the purpose of attending only.

If multiple parents are attending the same event, please indicate this in your email. Only one parent should request support in this case.
